On the night of Friday 14th February 2014, after two-and-a-half years of renovations, the store had a "Grand Opening" (even though we never closed) to celebrate and thank our employees, customers, suppliers and the local community for their support. It was also a celebration for our Australia Day awards.
Despite the near flooding due to a sudden 70mm downpour during the day, there was standing room only as around 100 guests enjoyed the evening.
There was something new to see for everyone, as antiques and other items of interest and even artefacts from the old Kyancutta Museum had been added as a permanent display in the store. While a TV displayed photos of old vs new store features throughout the night, a permanent slide display of our early pioneers and their innovations also drew much attention.
Newly added eye-catching facets of the renovations included the porcelain insulators from old power lines, working Bakelite telephones and the old telephone exchange, the 'hydro-electric' downlights and the bespoke galvanized gutters used to display chips and chocolates!
